Faqs About Razor Barbed Wire Products

Razor wire essentially consists of a central high-tensile steel wire on which blade-like metal barbs are stamped at regular intervals. These metal barbs are extremely sharp (razor-edged) and can easily cut most materials, thus providing a very effective physical and visual barrier and deterrent.

The distance between two razor barbs varies between 25 mm and 75 mm, depending on the level of security needed (the closer the barbs, the higher the security).

In Razor wire, the short, blunt, twisted wire metal barbs (present in barbed wire) are replaced by razor sharp long steel barbs increasing security efficiency from Theft and Trespass

Barbed Wire is the traditional form of security fencing and has been used for over one hundred years.

Whilst barbed wire does provide a certain level of protection, it can be crossed or cut with some effort. On the other hand, a Razor Wire Fence, with it’s extremely sharp barbs, can cause serious injury even with the slightest contact.

Hence, whenever security is paramount, a razor wire fence is the preferred option.

Razor wire consists of extremely sharp steel barbs, and even the slightest unprotected contact can cause serious injury. Therefore, using industrial-grade gloves while handling razor wire is essential.

However, simply using the right protective gear is not enough. A certain level of skill and training is also required to properly handle and install a razor wire fence. For this reason, installation is best left to experts.

At Bengal Sheet Metal Works, our team of experts not only helps you choose the most suitable razor wire for your needs but also ensures safe and professional installation at your premises.

Installing razor wire atop a boundary wall is essentially a 5-step process:

1. Install fence posts on top of the boundary wall

The most common fence posts used are Y-angles or RCC posts.
Angle Posts traditionally provide greater strength than RCC Posts

2. Stretch the razor wire coil carefully between the posts

Note: Industrial-grade gloves are required whenever handling razor wire.

3. Affix the razor wire to the fence posts

This is done using BSMW heavy-coated anti-rust GI tie wire or BSMW SS304 clips, along with BSMW Wire Twister & Spanner.
Note: The above items are provided as part of BSMW Installation Kits.

4. Add additional lines

Multiple razor wire lines can be added between fence posts by using additional razor wire coils.
Note: One razor wire coil typically extends up to 100 meters as a single line.

5. Anchor both ends firmly to prevent sagging or collapse

Razor wire can be extremely dangerous if not handled correctly. The first step is to wear appropriate protective gear, including heavy-duty gloves, full-sleeve clothing, and safety shoes.

Razor wire is supplied in the form of a coil. Therefore, particular care must be taken while opening the coil to ensure that, due to the tension in the wire, it does not open suddenly and uncontrollably.

All brackets, supports, and anchor points should also be thoroughly checked before stretching the wire across the posts. Failure of any of these components during installation can cause the wire to snap or the structure to fail, potentially resulting in serious injuries.
